Bitcoin Cash (BCH) surged by 31.50% in a single day, soaring to $348.23. Expectations that institutional investor accessibility and liquidity would expand, following the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) Group's announcement of Bitcoin Cash futures launching on October 19, instantly drove up the price.
According to cryptocurrency market tracking site CoinMarketCap on September 23 (local time), Bitcoin Cash traded at $348.23, marking a 31.50% increase over 24 hours. The key catalyst for this surge was the CME Group's announcement that it would launch Bitcoin Cash and Uniswap (UNI) futures on October 19, subject to regulatory review. Immediately after the announcement, BCH price jumped 14% within an hour, and trading volume surged by over 300% above average, reacting instantly to the news.
The CME futures listing has fueled expectations that it will provide regulated risk management and hedging tools for institutional investors and expand liquidity in the Bitcoin Cash market. While the overall virtual asset market increased by only 1.67% and Bitcoin (BTC) by 1.58% during the same period, BCH's 31.50% surge was analyzed to be significantly influenced by the specific news of the CME futures listing rather than a general market uptrend. The market sentiment score was also positive at 5.13 out of 10, but this too was attributed to the reaction to the futures listing news.
However, the rapid price surge in a short period has also increased concerns about overheating. The Relative Strength Index (RSI) climbed to 79.59, entering the overbought zone. The immediate price levels to watch are the previous resistance range of $320-$330. If BCH successfully converts $330 into a new support level, the next target is projected to be $382.57, the 127.2% Fibonacci extension, with a potential for further rise to $428.40, the 161.8% extension.
Conversely, if it fails to hold $330, profit-taking from the rapid rise could intensify. In this scenario, an analysis suggests a potential pullback to the psychological support level of $300. As no clear secondary catalysts supporting this rally have been identified, the sustainability of the short-term rally depends on whether the anticipation of CME futures listing continues to maintain actual trading volume and buying pressure.
Going forward, market attention is expected to focus on the CME futures launch date of October 19 and whether the $330 support holds. If BCH does not give back its recent gains and establishes a price range above $330, a retest of $382.57 and the $400 level is possible. However, given that the RSI has surged to overbought levels, it is also important to watch for the possibility of the uptrend calming down temporarily or volatility increasing ahead of the futures launch.
