The Bitcoin (BTC) and altcoin markets have signaled a historic bull market transition, emerging from a five-year liquidity contraction period. The simultaneous breakout above the 50-week moving average and altcoins' upward break of their trendline against Bitcoin mirrors the market flow just before the major rally in January 2020.
Dan Gambardello, host of the crypto-focused YouTube channel Crypto Capital Venture, analyzed in a video uploaded on September 22 (local time), "Bitcoin has definitively reclaimed the 50-week simple moving average (SMA) on the weekly chart." Gambardello stated, "Historically, a break above the 50-week moving average has, without exception, served as the starting point for the most powerful rallies." He added, "The quantitative tightening (QT) and economic cycle contraction that suppressed the market for the past five years have finally concluded, and we have entered an expansion phase."
Momentum indicators across the altcoin market have also recovered to January 2020 levels. The 'Others/BTC' weekly chart, which represents the total market capitalization of altcoins excluding Bitcoin, has broken above its long-term downtrend line. Gambardello diagnosed, "This is the first time altcoins have broken their trendline against Bitcoin since January 2020," adding, "There is approximately 20% upside remaining to the next major resistance level, the 200-week moving average." Ethereum (ETH) has also risen above its 20-month moving average on the monthly chart, replicating the structure of past economic cycle transitions that saw surges of 2,600%.
Warnings were also issued regarding investor impatience, as individual altcoin rebound rates varied. Compared to their June lows, Cardano (ADA) rebounded by 64%, XRP by 45%, Algorand by 45%, and SUI by approximately 45%. In contrast, Avalanche (AVAX) surged by 99% and Uniswap (UNI) by 275%, widening the gap. Gambardello pointed out, "Switching from a stagnant coin you hold to one that has already surged by hundreds of percent is the most fatal mistake, leading to falling into the trap of buying at the peak."
He explained that the timing of price eruptions for individual assets varies completely at the beginning of a bull market. While some assets like Uniswap lead the charge, others like SUI or Cardano consolidate at the bottom for an extended period before exploding later. Gambardello urged investors not to prematurely sell assets they have conviction in and chase surging assets, thereby missing out on the rally of their existing holdings.
