LG Electronics' large-capacity cooling water distribution unit & LG Energy Solution's BESS approved by NVIDIA standards
LG is strengthening its strategic alliance with Microsoft (MS) across its entire artificial intelligence (AI) business, from next-generation AI data centers (AIDC) and physical AI to AI transformation (AX).
LG Electronics and LG Energy Solution have joined NVIDIA's next-generation AI factory construction program 'DSX Ready,' as LG Group pushes to expand its AI ecosystem through comprehensive alliances with big tech companies.
LG and MS announced on the 22nd that they held a top executive meeting and signed a strategic partnership on the 21st (local time) at Microsoft headquarters in Redmond, Washington, USA, with LG Group Chairman Koo Kwang-mo and MS CEO Satya Nadella in attendance.
Key executives from LG, including Kwon Bong-seok, COO of LG Corp., Ryu Jae-cheol, CEO of LG Electronics, Hong Beom-sik, CEO of LG Uplus, Hyun Shin-kyun, CEO of LG CNS, and Jung Su-heon, Head of LG Sciencepark, attended, and both companies discussed strategic cooperation opportunities to accelerate the development of the AI ecosystem.
First, in the AIDC infrastructure sector, they agreed to jointly explore business opportunities to supply LG's cooling, power, and IT infrastructure solutions in line with MS's global data center expansion.
LG plans to stably supply core solutions required for AIDC and solidify its position as a practical supply partner as MS expands its global AI infrastructure.
In the short term, they plan to materialize opportunities to supply large-capacity cooling solutions, focusing on AIDC projects built at key strategic locations, while in the mid-to-long term, they plan to expand the scope of cooperation to the rapidly scalable Prefab data center sector.
Both companies also plan to accelerate collaboration in AI transformation, with LG planning to innovate its work environment by introducing MS's AI and cloud platforms, including Copilot, for all office workers.
Additionally, LG plans to utilize MS's high-performance cloud infrastructure to speed up physical AI model development and training.
Furthermore, LG Electronics and LG Energy Solution announced today that their large-capacity cooling water distribution unit (CDU) and battery energy storage system (BESS) have been included in NVIDIA's 'DSX Ready' products.
NVIDIA is building the 'DSX AI Factory Platform' to integrate and optimize the entire process from design to construction and operation of next-generation AI factories. DSX Ready is a qualification program for products and solutions that meet the relevant requirements.
LG Electronics' 2.5MW (megawatt) class CDU, which has received NVIDIA's standard approval, is considered a core facility that can stably manage the heat of AI data centers by excellently implementing the 'in-row' method, which groups multiple racks into row-units and cools them all at once with a large-capacity CDU.
LG Energy Solution was selected as the only Korean battery company to be an NVIDIA DSX Ready BESS partner.
The approved product is the high-capacity lithium iron phosphate (LFP)-based 'JF2 AC Link' product, characterized by high energy efficiency and long lifespan.
In addition, its modular design can shorten construction time and allows for rapid expansion in line with the scale-up of data centers, enabling it to cope with increased large-scale power demand.
It is equipped with 'AI load leveling' performance, which mitigates load by charging and discharging according to changes in AI server power consumption, and has enhanced 'voltage maintenance' functionality to stably supply power even in situations where grid voltage drops or rises sharply.
LG Energy Solution plans to secure an ESS production capacity of over 50GWh (gigawatt-hours) in North America by the end of the year, accelerating its penetration into the rapidly growing North American AI data center ESS market.
