Leading decentralized finance (DeFi) tokens surged after the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) eased regulations on tokenized stock trading.
According to Benzinga on September 20 (local time), Hyperliquid (HYPE) and Uniswap (UNI) both surged immediately after the SEC granted temporary conditional exemptions to Tokenized Securities Exchanges (TSVs) utilizing automated market makers (AMMs) and liquidity pools. The SEC described this move as a significant milestone that has opened the path for capital raising in the tokenized securities market. As a result, decentralized exchange platforms, which are key pillars of the Real-World Asset (RWA) tokenization ecosystem, are expected to directly benefit.
Hyperliquid's native token, HYPE, soared by 78% over the past 30 days, pushing its market capitalization past $23 billion. It rebounded from a January low of $20.3 to reach the $93 mark. It broke above the key resistance level of $76 recorded on June 16 and its previous all-time high of $89.38. With perpetual futures trading volume exceeding $240 billion in the last 30 days, and the consideration of a U.S. market entry strategy supported by U.S. President Donald Trump and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), the upward momentum has strengthened. The Average Directional Index (ADX) recorded 41, indicating strong trend strength, suggesting a potential breakthrough of the $100 resistance level.
Uniswap's UNI token also surged by 142% over the past 30 days, hitting $9.5, its highest level since November last year. Starting from a June low of $2.31, its price surpassed the resistance level of $7.47, a high recorded on September 6. Currently positioned above the 50-day and 200-day moving averages, the Relative Strength Index (RSI) has soared to 77.7, signaling an overbought condition. Analysis suggests a high probability of retesting the $7.47 support level in the short term before continuing its upward trend.
Other decentralized finance tokens such as Raydium, Lighter, PancakeSwap, and Aerodrome Finance also saw simultaneous upward trends. However, some institutional resistance to tokenized stocks is considered a variable. Adam Aron, CEO of AMC Entertainment (AMC), has previously criticized tokenized stocks as not being real assets.
The easing of regulations by U.S. regulatory authorities, coupled with a surge in trading volume, has led to a strong buying trend across the decentralized finance market. Whether HYPE breaks $100 and UNI establishes its support level will determine the direction of the additional rally.
