CoinDesk reported that the Zcash (ZEC) development team plans to apply the NU7 upgrade, which shortens the block generation time from 75 seconds to 25 seconds, to the mainnet on November 5th (local time). NU7 also includes a 'Network Sustainability Mechanism' where approximately 60% of transaction fees are not immediately paid to miners but accumulated and then distributed as block rewards starting from February 2031. Additionally, while the number of block generations will triple, the reward per block will be reduced by one-third, and the halving interval will be extended from 1.68 million blocks to 5.04 million blocks, largely maintaining the long-term ZEC issuance. November 5th is the targeted date and not yet confirmed. The development team plans to determine the final application status and activation block height on October 20th.
