Japan's Financial Services Agency (FSA) has expressed concern that cryptocurrency exchanges are guiding users towards a "retail brokerage" model, which has higher fees and liquidity spread profits, rather than an exchange (order book) model, Coinpost reported. Additionally, according to the revised enforcement rules of the Act on Prevention of Transfer of Criminal Proceeds in March, starting April 1, 2027, identity verification through IC chip reading will be mandatory for both in-person and non-face-to-face account openings at exchanges, and the existing methods will be completely abolished.
