Cardano (ADA) has joined Mastercard's cryptocurrency partner program, accelerating its entry into the global payment and stablecoin markets.
According to U.Today on September 15 (local time), the Cardano Foundation has joined Mastercard's cryptocurrency partner program. The Cardano Foundation will collaborate with Mastercard and other participants in the blockchain sector. Key areas include cross-border remittances, business-to-business transactions, payment processing, and stablecoins. The Foundation stated that this collaboration is "another step in connecting public blockchain infrastructure with global money movement."
Expansion also continued in the AI agent payment sector. Cardano has been integrated into the x402 repository and official packages, providing a foundation for AI agents to transact more easily on Cardano. x402 payments are supported on the mainnet, pre-production, and preview testnets. Charles Hoskinson, founder of Cardano, has emphasized that the combination of AI agents, blockchain, privacy, and digital finance can attract new users to the cryptocurrency market.
Network expansion efforts are also accelerating. Cardano developers are preparing to demonstrate Leios nodes achieving a throughput of up to 250 TxkB/s in local clusters. This is equivalent to processing approximately 1,000 simple transactions of 250 bytes per second. Currently, the maximum throughput of the Cardano mainnet is 4.5 TxkB/s. Hoskinson expects Leios to be implemented on the Cardano mainnet by the end of 2026.
Carlos Lopez de Lara, Product Manager at Input Output, stated, "Throughput has been secured. The remaining task is to adjust and optimize the network structure to implement the figures from the lab in a real internet environment." With the simultaneous progress of joining the Mastercard payment program, x402 integration, and Leios expansion, Cardano has entered a phase of expanding payment, AI agent transactions, and network processing performance.
