Economist Saifedean Ammous, famous for the Bitcoin book 'Why the Dollar Hates Bitcoin', argued that the BTC mining industry and power consumption may have already peaked, and this could actually be positive for the BTC price. He explained via X, "As mining rewards decrease due to halving and the long-term growth rate of BTC price slows down, AI data centers are competing for power and infrastructure, lowering mining profitability. In fact, according to estimates by the University of Cambridge in the UK, BTC mining power demand decreased from an annualized approximately 190 TWh in December 2025 to the upper 130 TWh range in mid-2026. This could lead investors to buy BTC itself instead of mining equipment, and reduced power consumption could also weaken environmental criticisms, which is positive for BTC."
