Woo Blockchain reported that Bitcoin's roadmap for countering quantum computer threats is taking shape, focusing on Pay-to-Merkle-Root (P2MR) and SHRINCS. BIP-360, currently in its draft stage, aims to reduce the risk of public keys being exposed for extended periods by introducing Pay-to-Merkle-Root (P2MR). Simultaneously, it provides a foundation for transitioning to a signature scheme that can withstand future quantum computers. SHRINCS, from Blockstream Research, is an SHA-256-based hash signature scheme designed to work with this upgrade path. Its purpose is to enable users to transfer funds before the emergence of quantum computers that could pose a substantial threat to cryptographic systems.
