The Indian state of Maharashtra is pushing to tokenize state government assets to raise funds for new infrastructure construction. According to CoinDesk, the tokenization of power transmission infrastructure is being highlighted as a key initiative. Currently, transmission lines generate continuous usage fee income by moving electricity through the power grid, but the enormous capital invested in their construction is tied up in existing facilities, making it difficult to use for new projects. In this context, Maharashtra plans to tokenize 40-50% of its transmission infrastructure, distributing a portion of the profits to investors and securing funds through token sales for the state government. The funds will be invested in building new transmission lines, expanding solar power generation, constructing energy storage facilities, and increasing power grid capacity. It is also reported that asset tokenization, including real estate, is under consideration, not just power infrastructure.
