As Anthropic's initial public offering (IPO) approaches, a warning has emerged that investment funds could shift to artificial intelligence stocks, potentially halting Bitcoin (BTC)'s rebound.
According to BeInCrypto on September 10 (local time), Benjamin Cowen, founder of Into The Cryptoverse, raised the possibility that Anthropic's IPO could put pressure on Bitcoin investor sentiment. He said, “Anthropic's IPO is probably coming in a month or two.” Anthropic confidentially filed its IPO paperwork in June. It aims to go public as early as this fall, with some estimates valuing the company at approximately $2 trillion.
Cowen cited market trends observed before SpaceX's listing in June. At that time, Bitcoin declined for several weeks prior to the listing. He analyzed that as investor interest shifted to AI-related stocks, the buying momentum in the cryptocurrency market weakened. He argues that a similar shift in funds could recur ahead of Anthropic's listing.
After rebounding in August, Bitcoin briefly rose to around $83,000 but has struggled to hold above $80,000 in recent weeks. Cowen, reviewing both bullish and bearish signals, again mentioned Bitcoin's realized price of $53,000 as a major risk zone.
Wall Street's movements are also fueling expectations for Anthropic's listing. Banks are working to help Anthropic and OpenAI obtain investment-grade credit ratings as they pursue IPOs. BeInCrypto reported that these movements indicate Wall Street's assessment that major AI companies are close to entering the stock market.
Cowen's main argument is that investor interest and speculative funds are not infinite. He explains that if individual and institutional investors' attention converges on major AI company IPOs this fall, Bitcoin could lose its upward momentum. The actual extent of fund movement is presented as key, depending on how closely Anthropic's listing date and Bitcoin's next price test overlap.
