Meta Platforms' (META) new AI agent, Muse, is changing Wall Street's investment perspective.
According to MarketWatch on September 10 (local time), J.P. Morgan analyst Doug Anmuth upgraded Meta's investment rating from Neutral to Overweight. He also raised the price target to $820. This reflects a potential upside of approximately 26% based on the $651 price that morning. Anmuth cited the launch of Muse and advancements in cutting-edge AI models as reasons.
Since its launch, Muse has climbed to 3rd place in the US Apple App Store. Meta explained that Muse proactively helps users achieve their goals while securely handling personal information. Anmuth highlighted Meta's ability to disseminate consumer AI services based on its approximately 4 billion users as a competitive advantage. He described this as a “significant competitive edge.”
The security structure also garnered attention from Wall Street. Muse processes user data in a separate virtual machine. Anmuth analyzed that securing user trust is a key barrier for AI agents handling sensitive personal information like passwords. Meta is not yet focused on short-term monetization for Muse. However, Anmuth predicted that significant revenue opportunities could arise from fees and subscription businesses in the future. He estimated the relevant market size could reach tens of trillions of dollars.
AI model competitiveness also supported the rating upgrade. Meta launched the Meta Superintelligence Lab (MSL) in June last year. Anmuth evaluated Muse Spark 1.1 and 1.3 as being competitive with the cutting-edge models from OpenAI and Anthropic. The next model, Watermelon, is also under development. Alexandr Wang, who leads MSL, reportedly told employees in July that Watermelon had caught up with OpenAI's GPT-5.5.
Meta's AI investment is expected to grow further. Anmuth projected Meta's AI computing expenditures to reach $243 billion next year. He expects it to increase to $284 billion by 2028. He assessed that Meta's AI models would form the foundation for its products and monetization strategies for years to come.
