"Earned $21 trillion thanks to tariffs"... Fox News also skeptical of 'tariff funding'
"If Republicans lose, impeachment will be pursued... stuck in political gridlock"
"No regrets about the Iran war"... Reaffirms expectation of war ending immediately after November midterm elections
U.S. President Donald Trump, on the 10th (local time), cited tariff revenue as the funding source to fulfill his promise of distributing $5,000 (approximately 6.7 million won) to each adult U.S. citizen if the Republican Party wins the November midterm elections.
When asked about the funding for the $5,000 dividend during an interview with Fox News on the same day, President Trump said, "We are earning $21 trillion. No country has ever earned an amount close to that," adding, "Thanks to that beautiful word, tariffs."
The $21 trillion mentioned by President Trump is interpreted to mean not the U.S. government's tariff revenue, but the total amount of investments from other countries into the U.S. that are expected to come in due to his tariff policies.
Fox News explained that this response suggests that if the Republican Party maintains control of Congress through a midterm election victory, tariff revenues could become part of the funding for this pledge.
This interpretation is also supported by the fact that Vice President JD Vance, who appeared on Fox News earlier that day, stated that the 'Trump dividend' would be funded by tariff revenues.
However, even pro-Trump Fox News, which conducted the interview, expressed skepticism, stating that the U.S. tariff revenue, which is around $200 billion annually, "falls far short of the estimated cost of this pledge."
U.S. media outlets estimate that at least $1 trillion would be needed to fulfill President Trump's promise of '$5,000 per person if the Republican Party wins,' which he announced at the Republican National Convention the previous day.
In this interview, President Trump also mentioned other fundraising methods, saying, "We are making money. The same goes for TikTok," adding, "We received fees. I secured fees for our country. $10 billion from Intel."
It has been reported that investors paid a total of $10 billion in fees to the U.S. Treasury during the process of transferring TikTok's U.S. business to a U.S. investor-led joint venture. The $10 billion from Intel appears to refer to the value of Intel shares acquired by the U.S. government.
Furthermore, President Trump stated, "I think there's a very good chance the Republican Party will win (in the midterm elections)," but claimed that if the Republican Party does not win, a Democratic-led "impeachment investigation" would follow, and "they have been talking about bringing this country to a standstill with political gridlock."
President Trump criticized the Democratic Party, saying, "They (the Democrats) are radical leftists. They are socialists, but also communists," and "All they have are bad policies."
When asked if he regretted the war with Iran, which made the midterm election landscape difficult, he replied, "No (regrets)," and "I don't believe in the word regret."
He then claimed, "Even if I had to do it again, I would do exactly the same thing," and "I eliminated their nuclear capabilities."
He then predicted that oil prices, which surged due to the war, would fall immediately after the war ends, saying, "I believe this (war) will end immediately after the election. Maybe it could end before that, but I think it will end right after."
