Zcash (ZEC) mining infrastructure has expanded in the United States. With the operation of a new 12-megawatt facility, its proprietary power assets have exceeded 60 megawatts.
According to crypto media outlet U.Today on August 4 (local time), Digital Currency Group (DCG) founder Barry Silbert shared news of Fortitude Mining's Grand Island, Nebraska mining facility beginning operations. Fortitude has completed the construction and electrical verification of its first self-developed data center and is ready for commercial operation.
The new facility has a power capacity of 12 megawatts. Fortitude's directly owned and operated power assets have increased to over 60 megawatts across seven facilities. Andrea Childs, CEO of Fortitude, stated, "Our directly owned and operated power strategy supports our vertically integrated Zcash business and mining platform."
Fortitude expects the new facility to lower the direct cash cost of mining one Zcash from approximately $70 to around $40. The power purchase price is about $0.045 per kilowatt-hour. The key to cost reduction is its own low-cost power and improved efficiency of next-generation mining equipment.
The facility is located between two solar power plants and adjacent to a substation with excess capacity. It is designed to reduce the burden on the local power grid by operating in a way that reduces consumption when power demand surges. The explanation is that owning its own facilities enhances cost control amid intense competition for low-cost power due to the expansion of AI data centers.
Fortitude was spun off from Foundry's mining division, a subsidiary of DCG, in January 2025. It is currently pursuing listing on the U.S. stock market through a business combination with HeartSciences (HSCS). Childs stated, "While the Bitcoin mining market is mature and highly competitive, Zcash is at a completely different stage," and affirmed that the company will continue its Zcash-centric vertical integration strategy.
