SoftBank Group (9984) surged 13%. The resurgence of artificial intelligence (AI) buying on Wall Street spread across Asian tech stocks.
According to CNBC on August 5 (local time), SoftBank Group shares rose 13% during intraday trading on the Japanese stock market. As US tech stocks surged on the back of strong earnings, a movement to repurchase AI-related stocks also spread in Asia.
SoftBank Group holds investment stakes in semiconductor design company Arm Holdings (ARM) and OpenAI. It is considered a representative Asian AI-related stock whose share price rise expands when investment sentiment towards the AI industry improves.
Korean semiconductor stocks also joined the rally. SK Hynix rose 5.5%, and Samsung Electronics climbed 2.4%. The collaboration between SK Hynix and Nvidia (NVDA) on next-generation AI memory also boosted investor sentiment.
The rebound in Asian tech stocks began first in the US stock market. Semiconductor stocks such as Nvidia, Broadcom (AVGO), and Micron Technology (MU) rose, and the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite indices also reached record highs.
