The CEO of Grayscale Investments has for the first time sold a portion of their XRP spot ETF holdings.
According to cryptocurrency specialized media Coingape on July 29 (local time), Grayscale Investments CEO Peter Mintzberg sold 2,611 shares of the Grayscale XRP Trust ETF (Grayscale XRP Trust ETF, GXRP). This marks Mintzberg's first reduction in XRP investment holdings, as confirmed by filings with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
Mintzberg divested the shares through the brokerage firm Cantor Fitzgerald. The total sale amount was $53,394. Even after the sale, Mintzberg still holds 2.84 million shares of GXRP.
Mintzberg acquired these shares in cash through private negotiations with the issuer in October 2024. He had no history of selling issuer securities in the past three months. On the 29th, GXRP fell by 3.07% to $20.51, and its year-to-date decline has exceeded 50%. Its assets under management (AUM) stand at $58 million.
The media reported that concerns have grown surrounding the possibility of a September interest rate hike by the Federal Reserve (Fed) and delays in processing cryptocurrency market structure bills in the U.S. The total assets under management for the five XRP spot ETFs have fallen below $1 billion, with cumulative net inflows recorded at $1.5 billion.
Investor sentiment was mixed in the derivatives market as well. XRP futures open interest decreased by 0.8% over 24 hours, totaling $2.44 billion. Open interest fell by 0.31% on a 4-hour basis, with declines of 0.32% at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) and 1.3% at Binance, respectively.
