Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX (SPCX), made a groundbreaking claim that if the company achieves its long-term goals, its value could surpass the value of all other assets existing on Earth. He brought SpaceX's ambitions to the forefront in response to criticism surrounding the Anthropic and SpaceX AI deal.
According to Bitcoin.com on July 10 (local time), X user Thomas D. pointed out that the Anthropic and SpaceX AI deal, estimated to be worth between $7.5 billion and $40 billion, “could be the biggest own goal of the AI era.” Thomas D. argued that Anthropic could be nurturing a direct competitor as xAI’s Grok 4.5 approaches top-tier AI performance at a lower cost.
Musk retorted, “They don’t seem to understand that if we achieve our goals, SpaceX will be worth more than everything else on Earth combined.” Anthropic signed a computing lease agreement with SpaceX in May 2026 to gain access to Colossus 1, the Memphis AI supercluster built by xAI for training its Grok models. The agreement included the use of over 220,000 NVIDIA (NVDA) GPUs and more than 300MW of power, at a cost of approximately $1.25 billion per month.
SpaceX filings outline plans to gradually expand the contract size until May 2029, with a potential contract value of $30 billion to $40 billion. Musk stated that the initial lease period is 180 days, after which either party can terminate the contract with 90 days' notice.
SpaceX completed its IPO on June 12 at $135 per share, raising $86 billion and setting a record for the largest IPO ever. On its first day of trading on Nasdaq, its market capitalization reached approximately $2.1 trillion, and the stock, which started trading at $150, surged 50% to an all-time high of $225.64 on June 16. At that time, SpaceX's enterprise value surpassed Amazon (AMZN) and approached $3 trillion.
Since then, SpaceX's stock price has fallen 26% from its peak to $145.2, then rebounded to around $152. The company was included in the Nasdaq 100 on July 7, attracting approximately $4.3 billion in index-tracking funds, and completed its 80th Falcon 9 mission this year to deploy additional Starlink satellites.
