Ripple has accelerated the expansion of its digital asset business under the European Union's Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation, overcoming regulatory hurdles targeting 30 European markets.
According to the cryptocurrency media outlet Coingape on July 6 (local time), Ripple received official approval as a Crypto-Asset Service Provider (CASP) in Luxembourg. This allows Ripple to provide regulated digital asset services across the entire European Economic Area (EEA).
The Luxembourg Financial Sector Supervisory Commission (CSSF) converted the preliminary approval previously granted to Ripple into an official operating license. Ripple can now offer its cryptocurrency payment platform to banks, financial institutions, and corporate clients in 30 EEA markets. By leveraging the passporting rights of the CASP license, Ripple can expand its business scope without repeating separate licensing procedures in each European country.
Cassie Craddock, Managing Director for UK and Europe at Ripple, stated, “This CASP approval signifies that Ripple has established a fully compliant regulatory framework and is ready to expand its business after the MiCA transition.” Craddock added, “Institutions we partner with in Europe are looking to build digital asset services with regulated partners, and Ripple has the licenses and readiness to meet that demand.”
This approval is an additional regulatory authorization to the Electronic Money Institution (EMI) license Ripple had already secured in the European Union. Ripple has expanded its regulatory foundation as one of the cryptocurrency companies possessing both official MiCA approval and an electronic payment license.
Ripple currently holds over 75 regulatory licenses and registrations across various jurisdictions. The company supports cross-border payments and digital asset infrastructure businesses based on this licensing framework.
