Sandy Peng, co-founder of Scroll, stated in a Forbes article, "The quantum computing threat is expected to materialize within approximately 10 years." He explained, "A quantum computing attack on Bitcoin would proceed in several stages. The most vulnerable targets are early P2PK (Pay-to-Public-Key) format addresses where public keys are permanently exposed on the blockchain." He added, "While Bitcoin's value may not drop to zero, its survivability appears much lower than anticipated. The threat of quantum computing is essentially a problem of governance and coordination, not a physical one. The SegWit upgrade achieved substantial and tangible performance improvements, but it took about two years from official proposal to actual implementation. It is expected that it will take 10 to 15 years for the Bitcoin community to reach a consensus regarding the quantum computing threat. This timeframe is almost identical to when the quantum computing threat is expected to materialize."
