Visits Nvidia GTC Taipei and Computex…Attends Jensen Huang CEO's keynote speech
Solidifying AI semiconductor alliance…Interest in whether a message of strengthened cooperation with Taiwan will emerge
SK Group Chairman Choi Tae-won will visit Taiwan next week to meet Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia.
According to industry sources on the 27th, Chairman Choi is scheduled to attend Nvidia's 'GTC Taipei,' which begins on the 1st of next month in Taiwan, and visit 'Computex,' Taiwan's largest ICT exhibition.
It is reported that on the morning of the 1st (local time), he will visit the GTC Taipei keynote speech site where CEO Huang will speak, to directly examine Nvidia's next-generation AI technology. SK Hynix executives, including CEO Kwak Noh-jung of SK Hynix, are also expected to attend.
During this visit to Taiwan, Chairman Choi is expected to emphasize the triangular alliance between SK Group, Nvidia, and TSMC. Taiwan is CEO Huang's hometown and the base of TSMC, with which SK Hynix has a cooperative relationship.
Chairman Choi has previously solidified the 'triangular alliance,' which is at the core of SK Group's artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductor strategy, by meeting CEO Huang in April 2024 and TSMC Chairman C.C. Wei in June consecutively.
SK Hynix produces HBM base dies using TSMC's foundry (semiconductor consignment manufacturing) process. TSMC also manufactures Nvidia's Graphics Processing Units (GPUs). The three companies continue their technological cooperation through ongoing exchanges.
Attention is focused on whether this visit by Chairman Choi to Taiwan will lead to a further advancement of the alliance between the three companies.
Since he will directly visit Computex, where major Taiwanese ICT companies gather, there are also observations that a message of strengthening cooperation with the Taiwanese industry, including TSMC, may emerge. Furthermore, he is expected to re-examine SK Group's overall AI memory supply chain and create opportunities to expand its business territory in Taiwan.
If the meeting between Chairman Choi and CEO Jensen Huang takes place, the two will have met four times in Korea, the US, and Taiwan within the past seven months.
Chairman Choi visited Nvidia GTC in San Jose, USA, in March, personally listened to CEO Huang's keynote speech, and jointly toured the SK Hynix booth with CEO Huang. Last October, CEO Huang visited Korea at Chairman Choi's invitation to attend APEC 2025 and supported the success of the APEC CEO Summit. In February this year, the two discussed ways to expand AI semiconductor cooperation at '99 Chicken,' a Korean-style pub near Santa Clara, where Nvidia's headquarters is located.
An industry official said, "Amid fierce global competition for AI semiconductor hegemony, Chairman Choi Tae-won's direct visit to Taiwan is more than just a simple move." He added, "The triangular alliance, where the three pillars of HBM, GPU, and foundry are interlinked, is the most concrete realization of 'cooperative AI' that Chairman Choi has consistently emphasized, and this visit will serve as an opportunity to elevate that alliance to the next level."
Meanwhile, SK Hynix plans to set up an exhibition booth at Computex 2026 in Taiwan to showcase its AI memory solution lineup, including HBM. It is also highly likely that CEO Jensen Huang will visit the SK Hynix booth during the exhibition period.
