Many investors dream of turning their lives around with XRP (Ripple), but an analysis suggests that its potential as a 'millionaire coin' is limited when considering realistic return calculations.
According to the investment specialized media The Motley Fool on May 25 (local time), an assessment has been made that while XRP needs to rise approximately 1,000 times to make investors millionaires, this is not highly realistic given its current price structure and past trends. The media diagnosed, "The possibility of high returns remains, but it is far from the explosive power of Bitcoin."
The media explained that generally, a 1,000-fold return is needed to create a $1 million asset from a $1,000 investment. Bitcoin (BTC) actually rose from around $100 in 2013 to $100,000 by the end of 2024, recording nearly a 1,000-fold return in over a decade. The Motley Fool analyzed that Bitcoin at the time benefited from the post-global financial crisis, based on a strong investment narrative of being 'the future currency'.
In contrast, XRP is currently trading below $1.40, and calculations show that it would need to rise to $1,400 to achieve a 1,000-fold increase. However, XRP's all-time high was only $3.84, recorded in 2018. The media pointed out that considering these past trends, there are limits to its realistic upside potential.
Individuals from Ripple's co-founding company are also drawing a line on excessive price predictions. David Schwartz, former Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Ripple, publicly expressed concerns about the 'XRP at $10,000' forecast suggested by some cryptocurrency influencers. He stated that if XRP truly had that potential, it should already be trading above $10.
However, The Motley Fool did not deny XRP's long-term upward potential itself. While the possibility of it rising to around $10 within the next 10 years is mentioned, an analysis suggests that such an increase alone would be insufficient to make initial small-scale investors millionaires. The media assessed that while XRP's investment thesis of improving global remittance efficiency remains valid, it would be difficult to replicate a super-large upward scenario like Bitcoin's past performance.
