Accusation of spreading false information against a virtual asset investment associate and a reporter who reported the allegations
On the 23rd, the camp of Yoo Jeong-bok, a candidate for Incheon Mayor from the People Power Party, filed a complaint with the police against those who raised suspicions about his spouse's 'omission of virtual asset declaration'.
Yoo's election campaign committee (Jeongbok Camp) announced on the 23rd that it had filed a complaint against Mr. A, a virtual asset investment associate, and reporter B, who reported the related allegations, on charges of spreading false information.
Yoo's camp explained at a press conference that "the investment in question is not money hidden by Yoo's spouse, but rather the proceeds from his brother's real estate sale," adding, "Evidence such as real estate sale documents, transfer details, and handwritten confirmations are clear."
They continued, "Yoo's spouse held virtual assets that she recognized as her own in a domestic exchange, and naturally reflected them in her asset declaration," emphasizing, "If she truly intended to hide assets, would she have kept her own assets in a domestic exchange and even declared them?"
They also criticized, "The Democratic Party is forcibly portraying this as hidden assets, nominee accounts, and illegal operations," adding, "They are ignoring records and inflating suspicions to fabricate a crime that doesn't exist."
Yoo's camp stated, "What they are relying on is the one-sided claim of Mr. A, a suspect in a fraud case, and politically fabricated suspicions based on partial recordings taken out of context," adding, "We will hold them accountable to the end for this political attack based on false premises and irresponsible smear campaign using the words of a fraud suspect."
Previously, one media outlet raised suspicions that Yoo's spouse possessed 21,000 virtual assets but transferred them to an overseas exchange, omitting them from the local election candidate's asset declaration.
The Democratic Party and Park Chan-dae candidate's election campaign committee, who launched a strong offensive, filed a complaint with the police against Yoo and his spouse the previous day on charges including violations of the Public Official Election Act and the Public Service Ethics Act.
