When the official X (formerly Twitter) account of Dogecoin (DOGE) asked where the phrase 'Dogecoin payment possible' would sound funniest, online users poured out unexpected answers like the Strait of Hormuz and the US Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
Benzinga reported on May 22 (local time) that the official Dogecoin X account posed a lighthearted question the day before, followed by witty responses from users. One user suggested the Strait of Hormuz, imagining the Shiba Inu mascot as a pirate.
Namtoshi Dogemoto, a Dogecoin analyst and holder, named the US Internal Revenue Service as an ideal place. He imagined a situation where federal taxes could be paid with DOGE.
Black humor also followed. Cassian Rhys suggested placing the phrase next to a 'Water Only' sign at a post-apocalyptic gas station convenience store. Wojak heightened the joke by imagining DOGE being accepted in heaven or the afterlife.
Benzinga stated that beyond memes and jokes, DOGE is also used for actual payments. Various platforms, including online casinos and gaming sites, accept DOGE as a payment method through payment gateways like BitPay, and it has also been used on Reddit and X to send tips to content creators via third-party applications.
According to Benzinga Pro data, DOGE was trading at $0.1057, up 0.72% over 24 hours at the time of writing. This online reaction showed that Dogecoin's meme identity continues to attract community engagement while maintaining market interest in conjunction with real payment use cases.
