"The source of the funds is the candidate's brother... the spouse was deceived and traded through her own account"
On the 20th, the campaign team for Yoo Jeong-bok, the People Power Party's candidate for Incheon mayor, clarified about the 'omission of virtual asset declaration' allegations raised by some media regarding candidate Yoo's spouse, stating, "It is not subject to asset declaration."
Yoo's election campaign committee (Jeongbok Camp) stated in a press release on the same day, "This matter is by no means concealment of assets or nominee ownership. It is an incident where a family member was defrauded by a person claiming to be a virtual asset expert, Mr. A, and suffered enormous damage during the candidate Yoo's private life, before he took public office."
The campaign committee explained, "The virtual assets in question in the report are not candidate Yoo's spouse's personal assets, but rather the proceeds from the sale of real estate belonging to candidate Yoo's brother. Candidate Yoo's spouse, who wanted to help her brother, who was ignorant about coin investments, was deceived by Mr. A and merely conducted transactions through her own account; it was not an investment asset for the purpose of active asset growth by candidate Yoo."
It added, "The assets purchased under Mr. A's direction have plummeted in price, resulting in severe losses. Candidate Yoo's spouse could not consider this as her own asset for declaration and recognized it as 'recoverable damaged assets' that needed to be returned and settled with the candidate's brother."
The campaign committee announced, "We are reviewing filing a criminal complaint against Mr. A on charges such as fraud and spreading false information, and we will take strong legal action against media outlets that falsely or distortedly report one-sided claims."
